    Introduction

    A separate Department of Planning has been created with effect from l st September, 1972 for better and effective control over the implementation of the various plan included in the Annual Programmes. Hon. Deputy Chief Minister (Finance and Planning) is the Minister in-charge of the Planning Department and under his authority Hon. Principal Secretary and Development Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Employment Guarantee) are senior administrative officers. All the subjects of this department have been divided office-wise into a total of 44 desks (Karyasan) under these administrative officers.

    The main function of this Department is formulation of annual programme at the State and District levels as per guidelines given by the Planning Commission. From 1st January, 2015 Central Government is established NITI AYOG in place of Planning Commision. Apart from this, the department helps in liaising with institutional funding agencies to provide more resources equipment materials for development schemes.
